The Berkeley Reads program, sponsored by the Friends of the Berkeley County Library in conjunction with the Berkeley County Library System and the Berkeley County School District, encourages the community to read one or more of the books and attend special events and book discussions at the local libraries.
Community reading programs foster a love of reading and aid in the fight against illiteracy.
How? By people enjoying reading and talking about a book together.
Berkeley County’s illiteracy rate among adults as 15%. We hope that we can work to reduce that number in the future.
We want to encourage people of all ages to enjoy reading. Community reading programs foster a love of reading and aid in the fight against illiteracy as people enjoy reading and talking about a book together.
